Test 15: Large crowd around a corner

Test 15: Large crowd around a corner

PASS

1. Definition

Three geometries, each 20 m wide with a start area of 20 m by 6 m, hold 500 persons; the same group of persons is used in each. The geometries are a straight route of 75.4 m (the longest), a straight route of 44 m (the shortest) and a route with a corner whose dimensions Fig. 19 gives (34 m leg, then a turning area 30 m wide). The time until all persons reach the target is compared, to show how much a corner changes the evacuation time.

3. What to expect

Ideally the time for the corner geometry lies between the times for the 44 m and the 75.4 m straight routes. RiMEA sets no fixed pass limit (p. 28).

Our criterion: Corner slows evacuation vs a straight path

5. Our implementation

Deviations from the standard:

  • The test loads two of the three scenario files, the corner geometry (Rimea-15-large-crowd-corner-2.zip) and the shortest straight geometry (-3.zip, 50 m); it does not run the 81.4 m straight geometry (-1.zip). All three are 20 m wide with 500 agents, a constant desired speed of 1.2 m/s, the default radius of 0.15 m and one seed (42).
  • The pass rule is the suite’s own: all agents evacuate and the corner geometry takes longer than the straight one. This is a different claim from RiMEA’s bracket between the shortest and the longest route.
  • The notebook runs all three scenario files and checks the bracket.
