Test 1: Walking speed in a corridor

Test 1: Walking speed in a corridor

PASS

1. Definition

One person walks along a corridor 2 m wide and 40 m long at a set walking speed. The test shows that the person covers the distance in the matching time. RiMEA allows for three inaccuracies: 0.4 m for body size, 1 s for premovement time and 5 % for walking speed. For a typical speed of 1.33 m/s, set between 4.5 and 5.1 km/h, this gives a travel time between 26 and 34 s.

3. What to expect

The travel time at 1.33 m/s lies between 26 and 34 s. This is the only test in the guideline with a fixed window; for all other tests RiMEA states that it sets no fixed pass limits (p. 28).

Our criterion: Travel time at 1.33 m/s in [26, 34] s

5. Our implementation

Deviations from the standard:

  • The agent starts within the first 0.4 m of the corridor and is removed on entering a 0.1 m exit strip at 39.9 to 40 m, so it walks slightly less than 40 m. The window is applied to the simulated travel time without adjustment.
  • The suite adds a second check that RiMEA does not ask for: on every sample the agent’s centre stays at least its radius, less 1 mm, inside the corridor walls (decision D16).
