Verif.2.1: Speed in a corridor

Verif.2.1: Speed in a corridor

PASS

1. Definition

One occupant with an assigned walking speed of 1 m/s walks along a corridor of 2 m by 40 m. The test checks that the model keeps an assigned walking speed over time. It is based on IMO Test 1.

3. What to expect

The occupant covers the corridor in 40 s. The result is a quantitative comparison of the simulated and the expected time. For grid-based models TN 1822 asks for at least two orientations of the geometry (for example 0 and 45 degrees), and for a check of the sensitivity to cell size.

Our criterion: Walking speed 1.0 +/- 0.05 m/s over the 40 m segment

5. Our implementation

Deviations from the standard:

  • The corridor is 60 m long: a 10 m buffer at each end surrounds the 40 m measurement segment, so the occupant has reached its desired speed when timing starts. The speed is taken from the time between x = 10 m and x = 50 m.
  • The pass rule is the suite’s own: the measured speed must be within 0.05 m/s of 1.0 m/s, which equals a time of 38.1 s to 42.1 s over 40 m. TN 1822 sets no tolerance.
  • The test runs one orientation and one seed (42). The orientation and cell-size checks are written for grid-based models and do not apply to the continuous-space model.
  • The occupant has the suite’s default body radius of 0.15 m and starts in a 1 m by 0.5 m box at the corridor entrance.
