IMO 6: Rounding corners

IMO 6: Rounding corners

PASS

1. Definition

Twenty persons walk toward a left-hand corner. They start spread uniformly in a patch 4 m long and 2 m wide at the start of a corridor 2 m wide. The corridor runs 10 m, then turns left into a leg 2 m wide that continues 10 m beyond the corridor (Fig. 1, p. 10). The persons must get around the corner without penetrating the boundaries.

2. Scenario

Scenario picture not available.

3. What to expect

All twenty persons navigate the corner without penetrating the walls. IMO gives no numeric limit.

Our criterion: Navigate a 90-degree corner; agent bodies stay inside the geometry (centre at least radius - 1 mm from walls)

5. Our implementation

Deviations from the standard:

  • The leg above the corridor is 8 m long (the exit strip is at y = 8 m to 10 m), not 10 m.
  • The walkable polygon has a 2 m by 2 m pocket below the corridor’s end that is not in Fig. 1.
  • The pass rule is the suite’s own: all twenty agents reach the exit, and every agent’s centre stays at least its radius, less 1 mm, inside the walkable polygon (decision D16). Because the polygon is not convex, the check also detects cutting across the inner corner.
  • Constant desired speed 1.2 m/s, default body radius 0.15 m; one seed (42). The scenario is built in code (tests/vv/test_imo.py).
